WHAT ARE WE DOING?
We plan to use solar energy to provide power to 25 per cent of our daily operations. By combining solar with wind turbines, we hope to achieve 50% within two years or less. This not only reduces our carbon footprint and the negative impact on the use of fossil fuels, but the reduction in bills will help us to reinvest these costs into further energy efficiency developments.
Installation of bio-digester before July 2018 - This will enable us to manage our waste independently at the same time as supplying gas as a by-product to our site.
Off Grid Energy independence - This will enable us to supply all our energy needs via solar panels and wind turbines and reduce our need of fossil fuels.
Where possible we use our water from the washing machines, showers and bathroom sinks to water our land and provide a valuable addition to the local water table. Water is also harvested from the roofs and collected where possible for re-use. Please use water wisely and sparingly where possible. We intend to supply large water drums for our apartment units in the event of water shortages.
We struggle to continually grow food in our local on site food beds and surroundings. Our efforts to grow organic food can be challenging at times but we continue to pursue this goal. If you are able to help in any way this would be appreciated.
Your room linen will be changed every three days or longer if agreeable. This reduces the consumption of our valuable local water supplies.
Help us to help you help us to help you ;)
We do not currently use AC units in our apartments.
We do not have running hot water so incidentally we promote cold showers...they are a healthier option too!
We promote outdoor cooking and eating
We promote the use of local resources and labour in an effort to contribute to the community, increase employment opportunities and promote independancy
